During sentencing in Stamford, Philliann Barnett, 39, was given a 10-year sentence, reduced by half. She will also have to pay restitution and will serve five years of probation following her release.
Barnett, who was arrested in December 2015 for the crime, committed numerous acts of fraud, which led to losses of over $26,000 to the Springdale woman, the Stamford Police said following an investigation.
After she was hired by the victim’s family, Barnett immediately stole the victim’s identity and opened new cards in her name, according to police.
Barnett also used the victim's pre-existing credit cards and charged personal items on them, police report.
She was caught after the victim's daughter began receiving calls from creditors.
Barnett, who uses various alias' is no stranger to the crime, she had several open cases of theft in Ridgefield and Wilton and seeks victims with diminished mental capacity, Stamford police report.
